چکیده

We examine a method of curvature estimation that computes the curvature directly from three dimensional data. We refer to this as the kernel method of curvature estimation and our experiments indicate that several parameters be modified from those originally suggested to achieve more accurate and reliable results. This improved performance is essential for analysis of medical volume data by computer aided diagnosis algorithms, many of which use curvature estimation for shape computations and pattern recognition. We also examine cases in which the kernel method yields inaccurate responses based on specific topologies. D 2004 CARS and Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Estimation of Source Location Using Curvature Analysis

A quadratic surface can be fitted to potential-field data within 3×3 windows, which allow us to calculate curvature attributes from its coefficients. Phillips (2007) derived an equation depending on the most negative curvature to obtain the depth and structural index of isolated sources from peak values of special functions. They divided the special functions into two categories: Model-specific...

Identification of Hazardous Situations using Kernel Density Estimation Method Based on Time to Collision, Case study: Left-turn on Unsignalized Intersection

The first step in improving traffic safety is identifying hazardous situations. Based on traffic accidents’ data, identifying hazardous situations in roads and the network is possible. However, in small areas such as intersections, especially in maneuvers resolution, identifying hazardous situations is impossible using accident’s data. In this paper, time-to-collision (TTC) as a traffic conflic...

Surface curvature estimation for automatic colonic polyp detection [5746-43]

Colonic polyps are growths on the inner wall of the colon. They appear like elliptical protrusions which can be detected by curvature-derived shape discriminators. For reasons of computation efficiency, much of the past work in computeraided diagnostic CT colonography adopted kernel-based convolution methods in curvature estimation. However, kernel methods can yield erroneous results at thin st...

Error estimation for nonlinear pseudoparabolic equations with nonlocal boundary conditions in reproducing kernel space

In this paper we discuss about nonlinear pseudoparabolic equations with nonlocal boundary conditions and their results. An effective error estimation for this method altough has not yet been discussed. The aim of this paper is to fill this gap.

Application of surface-derived attributes in determining boundaries of potential-field sources

This paper describes an edge detection method based on surface-derived attributes. The surface-derived attributes are widely used in the interpretation ofseismic datain two main categories: (1) derivative attributes including the dip angle and the azimuth; (2) derivative attributes including curvature attributes.    In general, the magnitude of the normal curvature of a surface (curvature attri...
